I am just about done with the CNC ox build. I have the spindle working now with the pwm controller. When I fired it up with a bit in place, I noticed a slight wobble. Probably about a 10th of a millimeter on a 16th inch endmill. On an larger endmill, it is much worse.
How do I get the wobble out. My friend who built the same machine a while back let me try his collet and endmill and I had the same results. I have to think it's something to do with the spindle. Any ideas?
Where is the wobble noted at? I have not gotten far enought along to actually start a job. The wobble (runout?) is visible when I start the spindle. With an 1/8th inch bit, it is only about 1 or 2 10ths of a millimeter, but on a larger (6mm) bit, it is probably well over a mm. I don't see how I could get a got result from that. Just to try and see what is going on, I flipped the spindle in the mount so that the cutting in was up and I could see more clearly.
Have you tried a new endmill? I have tried several endmills (0.5mm, 3mm, 6mm). the larger the bit/collet, the more pronounced the runout.
Does it effect the cut? I tried to start the chilipeppr sample cut and the bit broke very quickly.
What RPM can you see the wobble? So far, I have run it only at the low end of the range for that spindle. I don't know how to tell the exact RPM.
Have you measured it with a dial indicator? Unfortunately, I don't have a good instrument for that. To be honest, the runout is so obvious, it never occured to me to measure it.
I have ordered a better quailty collet and endmill from ToolsToday and want to see how that effects the issue.
